One of the ways that we raise money is by selling books, magazines, coffee, t-shirts and crafts. Our focus at the Free Space is to create a non-commercial space, but the reality of living in a capitalist system is that you need to make money to survive. As the holiday season is almost upon us, you can support a good organization and get some cool gifts for your friends and family. So please consider supporting the Free Space by buying from us.
Books: We have a small collection of mostly non-fiction covering a range of topics from feminism to race to labor to globalization. We also have some poetry, fiction and cook books.
Magazines and Zines: We carry some magazines such as Clamor, Z Magazine, the Earth First Journal, Anarchy and Permaculture Activist. We also carry local zines distributed by Foglight Distro including WT Chronicles, Moss on Urban Decay, Black Star North, Maine Forest Reader, and more.
Zapatista Coffee: We are selling 1 lb bags of Zapatista Coffee which is organically grown by farmers cooperatives in Chiapas, Mexico who are in Zapatista controlled areas and is roasted by Cafe Rebellion in Colorado. Zapatista is not only supporting a great cause, it’s also some amazing coffee.
Slingshot Organizers: Slingshot organizers have a daily calendar for 2006 with history and date specific information from a radical perspective. There’s lots of fun graphics, short articles, a contact list and an address book. They make great gifts for people.
T-Shirts: For the past three years, we have sold People’s Free Space t-shirts. They are hand printed on re-used shirts which are better for the environment than new shirts. We have a variety of sizes and colors.
Local Crafts: We are going to begin selling local crafts on consignment. We plan to have hats, scarves, ceramics, books, paintings, jewellery and whatever else anyone brings us. So bring in your crafts to sell.
